Lebanese President Michel Aoun met at the presidential palace east of Beirut yesterday with his country’s delegation to the indirect maritime border demarcation talks with Israel. The team is headed by Brigadier General Staff Pilot Bassam Yassin.
According to the president’s office, the delegation handed Aoun a report containing details of the negotiation stages from inception to date. There is also an integrated strategy for the next stage which guarantees Lebanon’s interest in preserving its rights to its natural resources in the exclusive economic zone.
The fifth round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel on their maritime border demarcation concluded on 4 May under the auspices of the UN, with US mediation. No media outlets were present.
However, on 14 September, oilfield services provider Halliburton announced that it had been awarded an integrated services contract to execute a three to five well drilling and completions campaign for Energean in Israel. The drilling will take place in an area in the Mediterranean Sea disputed between Lebanon and Israel.
