Turkish Energy Minister: Ankara to build 2 power plants, drill for oil in Libya in 3 months

Libya Observer – The Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj and the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed cooperation in oil and gas drilling in Al-Sarraj’s recent visit to Ankara.

Donmez told reporters Sunday that Ankara was working on setting up two power plants in Libya, and that the Libyan National Oil Corporation will start in three months drilling operations for oil in parts of the Mediterranean as per Turkey-GNA MoU of November 2019.

He also talked about future projects in Libya, saying a lot of work needs to be done in infrastructure projects, adding that Ankara was working for the time being on building two power plants, reiterating that his country had become a strong international player in oil drilling operations not only in Libya but also in other African areas.

Donmez added that Turkey needs to wait for three months to start drilling near Libyan waters due to legal procedures and contact line.

Al-Sarraj and Erdogan met on June 04 in Ankara and discussed many issues, including the return of Turkish firms to take part in reconstruction projects in Libya.
