Thirty-six countries invited to OPEC+ meeting on April 9

The Secretariat of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) invited 36 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Brazil, to the OPEC+ ministerial meeting, which will be held on April 9 as a videoconference.

Bloomberg reported earlier that the United States and Canada were not invited to the videoconference. “It’s not true, they are invited,” TASS quotes the source as saying. “We are expecting their confirmation,” he added.

In the invitee list, four groups of countries can be distinguished: OPEC members, non-OPEC members but participate in the OPEC + deal, observer countries, as well as countries that have not previously cooperated with OPEC. The last group includes ten countries: Argentina, Brazil, Great Britain, Egypt, Indonesia, Canada, Colombia, Norway, the U.S., Trinidad and Tobago. Only three countries from this list – the UK, Canada and the U.S. – have not yet confirmed their participation.

The meeting is expected to begin at 16:00 Moscow time on April 9.
