Father of TRNC President Ersin Tatar passed away

Rüstem Tatar, the father of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar, passed away on Saturday morning. His funeral will take place today in Nicosia Cemetery, and attended only by close family member within the framework of coronavirus measures.

Rüstem Tatar was born on 23 October 1930 in the village of Yakacık in Paphos.

Completing his primary education in 1941, Rüstem Tatar graduated from the College Branch of the Turkish Cyprus Islamic Boys High School in 1947.

Rüstem Tatar graduated from Nottingham University, Department of Finance and Economics in 1951.

In 1955,  upon returning to Cyprus was appointed as senior accountant at the Treasury of the Colonial Government. In 1958   was appointed as Acting Director of the Audit Department following transfer from the island of the British   director. It was the first time that London had appointed a Cypriot to that post.

Tatar served as the Minister of Finance and Budget Affairs in the Turkish Cypriot Administration/Federated State between 1967-1975.

Rüstem Tatar served as the Turkish Cypriot Member and Rotational Chairman of the Tripartite Autonomous Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus between 1984-2005.

Rüstem Tatar, who was also the President of the TRNC Chartered, Certified and Certified Public Accountants Association, has provided consultancy to the government on many issues after 2005.
