Lavrov: Nord Stream-2 will be completed despite difficulties

Reuters – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project would be completed despite experiencing difficulties, the Interfax news agency reported.

Lavrov added the obstacles that have slowed the project’s completion, including Germany’s energy regulator declining to grant a waiver of European Union gas directives to the operators of the pipeline this month, would only result in higher gas prices for Europe, the TASS news agency reported.

Nord Stream-2, designed by Russia’s Gazprom to increase direct shipments to Europe, is behind schedule and has faced political opposition from Washington, as well as from Ukraine and Poland through whose territory Russian gas is shipped to consumers in western Europe.
