Russia and China intend to develop independent financial infrastructure, substantially increasing the use of the ruble and the yuan in settlements between the two countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a video address to participants of a Russian-Chinese conference.

“In the conditions when the US and the EU have turned their currencies into an instrument of blackmail, we intend to develop independent financial infrastructure, substantially increase the use of the ruble and the yuan in settlements between the countries. Their share already accounts for a quarter of our trade turnover,” the minister said.

According to Lavrov, Moscow considers comprehensive development of strategic partnership with Beijing a prior area of its international policy amid challenging environment the world is facing now.
