Russia advises representatives of the United States and the DPRK before the summit in Hanoi
Russia hopes for the success of the DPRK and US summit in Hanoi and consults representatives of both sides, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with Vietnamese Television and the Chinese TV channels CCTV and Phoenix. “We hope for success and try to contribute to it. I will not make a secret out of this: the representatives of the United States, who are responsible for preparing the summit, are consulting with us. We are also in constant contact with our North Korean friends. The final agreement on a settlement on the Korean Peninsula will have to be fixed in a multilateral format, Mr. Lavrov said:
“The problems of Northeast Asia require agreement with the agreements of all the other participants – South Korea, China, Russia and Japan”.
The meeting of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be held February 27-28. One of its results could be a statement about the end of the confrontation between the two countries. For Washington, the key issue is the disarmament of Pyongyang, for North Korea – the easing of sanctions.
